The Minnesota DNR provided the following summaries of last week's activities by Conservation Officers:
CO Kipp Duncan (Duluth) spent the week working boating and fishing enforcement on area lakes. Many people were out recreating over the long weekend. Officer Duncan assisted with a wolf depredation call and also followed up on a litter case. Officer Duncan also assisted with a security detail in the Duluth Harbor for the annual fireworks celebration.
Water Resource Enforcement Officer Mike Scott (NE MN) worked with Wisconsin DNR on a tri-state aquatic invasive species commercial. The commercial is being shot in cooperation with Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota DNR’s. Work on several Public Water permits was conducted and discussions with local SWCD on issues in the Duluth Area.
CO Andy Schmidt (Brookston) checked area lakes and rivers. Angling success was mixed with a panfish bite on the rise. ATV complaint areas were worked. Wolf depredation complaints were investigated and paperwork was completed restitution.
Sgt. Keith Olson (Lake Superior Marine Unit) worked the July 4th fest in the Duluth – Superior Harbor with the USCG. He checked boaters and anglers on Lake Superior. He also checked on ATV complaints in Rice Lake Twp.
CO Troy Ter Meer (Lake Superior Marine Unit) patrolled Lake Superior, Superior Bay, St. Louis River, and inland lakes for boaters and anglers over the July 4th weekend. He assisted with the safety zone for the fireworks display in the Duluth Harbor. He also patrolled for navigation lights on Island Lake during high boating traffic. He assisted in advising a camper he had camped too long on state forest property. A meeting was attended. Enforcement action taken for angling, boating, and AIS violations.
